Ranchi, August 20: The ongoing protest against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations in Jharkhand has been suspended for two months by the JPSC-JSSC Reform Platform, following assurances from the government. The platform stated that students have decided to suspend the protest, placing their trust in the government’s commitment to address their concerns. They emphasized the need for the government to take solid and transparent actions in the interest of students, warning that any negligence or bias in the investigation process would lead to the resumption of protests.
Following the announcement to suspend the protest, a press conference was held by the platform. Students expressed that the government had acknowledged irregularities in the examinations during a cabinet meeting and had made several important decisions. They remarked that had the government acted on students’ complaints in a timely manner, there might not have been a need for a 25-day protest.
The students noted that the government has indicated it will approach the courts regarding matters related to the JPSC and JSSC examinations. They urged the government to strongly present their case in court concerning the alleged irregularities. Failure to do so would be seen as a betrayal of the students’ trust. The platform members insisted that the investigation should be conducted under judicial supervision and in a completely transparent manner, aiming not only to cancel the exams but also to identify those responsible for the irregularities and take action against them.
The protesting students also demanded the withdrawal of cases filed against them during the protest, asserting that they had exercised their democratic rights in their quest for justice. They raised questions regarding the PGT examination, alleging irregularities in the results released over three consecutive years.
The platform has called for the cancellation of the PGT examination and a thorough investigation into the matter. Students pointed out that many facts related to the alleged irregularities are publicly available and should be investigated. They also questioned the approximately 90 percent cutoff in the municipal recruitment examination, demanding an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in that process as well. Students stated that if the investigation affects the recruitment process, candidates who exceed the age limit during this period should still be given an opportunity.
