Jaisalmer, September 13 (Udaipur Kiran) : The 642nd fair of Baba Ramdev, a revered folk deity in western Rajasthan, officially commenced on Sunday at the sacred site of Ramdevra in Jaisalmer. The event, often referred to as a major religious gathering, attracted a large number of devotees from across the country.
During the opening ceremony at Baba Ramdev’s samadhi, District Collector Anupama Jorwal and Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare were present, along with descendants of Baba Ramdev and members of the samadhi committee. The descendants performed a ceremonial Panchamrit abhishek at the samadhi, followed by the offering of a velvet cloth by the officials.
As the fair began, a surge of devotees arrived to pay their respects at the samadhi, resulting in long queues both within the temple complex and in surrounding areas. To manage the crowd and ensure the comfort of the pilgrims, the administration implemented extensive arrangements.
In a media interaction, Collector Jorwal emphasized that the safety and convenience of the devotees are the top priorities. Drinking water facilities have been set up for those waiting in long lines. Given the heat and the large turnout, fogging machines have been deployed in the fair area to provide relief. Additionally, female police officers have been stationed, and health checkpoints have been established to offer first aid when necessary. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are also on standby near the Runiya Sarovar for any emergencies.
Collector Jorwal noted that this year’s fair is being organized under special circumstances, particularly in light of upcoming local body elections. The administration has made necessary preparations to ensure the comfort of the attendees and maintain law and order. An adequate police presence has been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents during the fair. She highlighted Baba Ramdev as a deity promoting social harmony, stating that he has aided everyone without discrimination, and expressed hopes for the well-being and prosperity of all.
Superintendent Shivhare reported that security measures have been enhanced significantly. The number of CCTV cameras in the fair area has been increased, and iron barricades have been installed to manage the queues and prevent any stampede-like situations. Over 2,000 police personnel and security forces have been assigned to ensure safety and maintain order throughout the event, with special monitoring at entry and exit points, crowded areas, and key locations.
