Chennai, May 6: In a significant development in Tamil Nadu politics, the Congress party has officially announced its support for actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, TVK, to form the government. This decision was made following a meeting of the Congress’s top leadership and the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
Girish Chodankar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Tamil Nadu, released a statement indicating that Vijay had formally requested support from Congress. He emphasized that the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly the youth, have given a clear and strong mandate in favor of a secular, progressive, and welfare-oriented government. In respect of this mandate, Congress has decided to extend ‘full support’ to TVK.
However, the party clarified that this support comes with a condition. Congress stated that no ‘communal forces’ that do not believe in the Indian Constitution should be included in this alliance.
The press release further mentioned that the alliance between TVK and Congress will not be limited to government formation but will also collaborate in future local body elections, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha elections. Both parties are committed to advancing social justice and constitutional values, inspired by the ideals of Periyar, Kamaraj, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Manickam Tagore congratulated Rajesh Kumar on being elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in Tamil Nadu via the social media platform ‘X’. He noted that in times when compromising on principles has become common, Rajesh Kumar’s loyalty and integrity stand as an example.
The ongoing press release states that this alliance is being viewed as a major shift in Tamil Nadu politics. Rahul Gandhi and Vijay have jointly pledged to honor the historic mandate of the people and work towards fulfilling the dreams of the state’s citizens, especially the youth.
