Chennai, September 7 (Udaipur Kiran) : Emergency response teams were activated at Chennai Airport on September 7 after a Malaysia Airlines flight was diverted due to a technical failure in one of its engines. The flight, identified as MH156, was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah and had 186 passengers on board.
Upon receiving reports of an issue with engine number two, airport officials declared a “full emergency.” Fortunately, the Boeing aircraft landed safely at Chennai Airport. Following the landing, the airline’s technical teams began investigating the nature and severity of the problem.
An airport spokesperson confirmed that the airline and its technical teams were actively looking into the aircraft’s technical issues. Despite the emergency situation, regular operations at the airport continued without interruption.
Decisions regarding the flight’s onward journey will be made after the technical staff complete their assessments. Meanwhile, an Air India Express flight from Tiruchirappalli to Singapore was also diverted to Chennai International Airport due to a technical problem. In response to these incidents, local standby measures were put in place at the airport, ensuring all necessary emergency protocols were followed.
The diverted Air India Express flight landed safely and vacated the runway without incident. Following the declaration of local standby, operational and emergency response agencies at the airport remained on alert, prepared for any necessary actions. An airport official reassured that all operations were running smoothly.
