Global Leaders Mourn Passing of Tanzanias First Gentleman

Dar es Salaam, September 7 (Udaipur Kiran) : Leaders from around the world have expressed their sorrow following the death of Hafidh Amir Hassan, the husband of Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan. He passed away on Monday due to complications from a heart attack while receiving treatment at a hospital in Zanzibar.

Vice President Deogratius Ndumbaro confirmed that Hafidh died at approximately 8 AM on Monday. His burial was scheduled for the same day in Kijimkazi, Zanzibar.

Kenyan President William Ruto took to social media platform X to convey his condolences, stating, “I received the news of the passing of Hafidh Amir Hassan, husband of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, with deep sadness.” He added, “On behalf of the Kenyan government and people, the First Lady, my family, and myself, I extend my sympathies to President Samia, her family, and the people of Tanzania. President Samia has lost a lifelong partner, her children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son. In this moment of grief, Kenya stands with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters. May God grant President Samia and her family comfort and strength during this difficult time and grant Hafidh Amir Hassan eternal peace.”

Rwandan President Paul Kagame also expressed his condolences, saying, “My sister, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the people of Tanzania, I extend my sympathies on the passing of Hafidh Amir Hassan.” He emphasized that the Rwandan government and people stand in solidarity with Tanzania as they honor Hafidh’s life and legacy.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema remarked, “We express our heartfelt condolences to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on the passing of her husband Hafidh Amir Hassan. During this challenging time, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the First Family and all citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania.”

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated, “I extend my deepest condolences to Her Excellency President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan on the passing of her husband Hafidh Amir Hassan. Somalia stands with her family and the people of Tanzania in this time of sorrow. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”

Hafidh was an agricultural expert and was seldom seen in public life. He married Samia in 1978, and the couple had four children.
