Mumbai, September 3: Amid ongoing speculation about his potential entry into national politics, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis firmly dismissed these rumors on Thursday. He clarified that he intends to continue serving the state at least until 2029.
Speaking at an infrastructure conclave on a Marathi television channel, Fadnavis addressed repeated reports about his possible move to the national capital, stating that his future role is in the hands of party leaders.
“My party and my leaders will determine my role. The day they decide, I will certainly go to Delhi. As of today, I believe I am not going to Delhi until 2029,” he said.
Rejecting the ongoing media discussions, he humorously remarked, “Some of my well-wishers believe that going to Delhi would be a promotion for me, while others think that if I leave, it would relieve them of a burden. Whether people want it or not, my leaders will keep me in Maharashtra until 2029. Every two to three months, when someone has no news or wants to create a discussion, they send me to Delhi. Honestly, I enjoy it.”
Fadnavis’s statement came after a surprising claim made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday. Raut alleged that despite Fadnavis denying any plans to enter national politics, the Prime Minister wishes to invite him to New Delhi for a significant responsibility.
Speaking to the media, Raut claimed that discussions are ongoing within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) about promoting Fadnavis. He stated, “The Prime Minister wants to bring CM Fadnavis to Delhi and assign him an important responsibility. I know this for sure.”
Raut further claimed that the RSS desires a prominent leader who is not currently part of the central cabinet to be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister. According to him, the individual expected to succeed PM Modi in the cabinet is not yet in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Fadnavis also presented a vision for Maharashtra’s economic future, emphasizing that the state is very close to achieving its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy. With a current growth rate of 8.8 percent, he noted that the state needs to exceed 10 percent to reach its target within this decade.
Fadnavis stated, “Many states dream of becoming a $1 trillion economy, but Maharashtra is the closest to achieving it as we have already reached $660 billion. If we maintain our growth rate, we will definitely become a $1 trillion economy by 2030.”
