BJP President Criticizes Punjab CM for Undermining Democracy

New Delhi, May 2: The President of the Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, has accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of once again bringing shame to democracy. He alleged that Mann appeared intoxicated during a special one-day session of the Punjab Assembly on Labour Day.

Sachdeva pointed out that Mann stumbled into the Assembly and spoke in an unclear manner, raising questions about the Speaker’s role in not intervening. He stated that Mann’s apparent state of intoxication reflects a lack of confidence in the stability of his own government. This is not the first instance where Mann has allegedly been inebriated in a legislative session.

He further claimed that during his tenure as an MP, Mann had also reportedly arrived at the Lok Sabha under the influence of alcohol. “Today, the way he entered the House and spoke in that condition crossed all boundaries of decorum,” Sachdeva remarked.

He noted that people from Punjab, Delhi, and across the country are shocked by this behavior and are demanding immediate disciplinary action against Mann from Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Earlier, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar stated in Chandigarh that a breath analyzer test should be conducted before any floor test in the Assembly. This statement came amid chaos in the Punjab Assembly, where Congress staged a walkout, alleging that Mann arrived in a drunken state and demanded alcohol tests for all present legislators.

Jakhar emphasized, “The floor test can happen later, but a breath analyzer test should be conducted first. This is my demand. Whether the Chief Minister conducts a floor test or not, a breath analyzer test for the leaders in the Punjab Assembly today is essential.”

He also accused the Chief Minister of misconduct during a cabinet meeting earlier in the day, claiming that two ministers were insulted and inappropriate language was used against not only them but also the Chief Secretary.

Jakhar stated, “If the government arrives in this condition in the Assembly, it is an insult to the institution. The Assembly is the temple of democracy.”

Leader of the Opposition, Pratap Singh Bajwa, also demanded alcohol tests for all legislators following the allegations against Mann. Congress has raised concerns about the behavior and condition of members during the proceedings, asserting that medical checks are necessary to maintain transparency and accountability.
