Government Committed to Settling RTC Employees Pending Payments: CM Revant Reddy

Hyderabad, May 2: Chief Minister A. Revant Reddy has stated that the government is taking several steps to strengthen the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) financially and ensure smooth operations across the organization. The state government is committed to addressing the demands of RTC employees and safeguarding their rights.

During a meeting with representatives of RTC unions, the Chief Minister responded positively to their requests and announced that salaries for the three-day strike period would be released, and cases registered against employees during the strike would also be withdrawn. He directed the Transport Minister and other officials to take immediate action regarding the payment of salaries for the strike period and the withdrawal of cases.

On Friday, RTC trade union leaders met Chief Minister Revant Reddy at his residence in Jubilee Hills. The union leaders expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking initiatives to resolve their issues. The Chief Minister congratulated them on presenting a work plan aimed at promoting the organization’s development, ensuring its existence, maintaining its dignity, and providing excellent services to the public. He further noted that RTC employees had supported the Congress in forming the government, and the Congress stood by them during their struggles.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the number of buses has been increased to boost RTC’s revenue, and new employees have been recruited. Additionally, the government has decided to construct an international standard bus terminal on 150 acres of land in Shamshabad, with 100 acres already allocated for a bus terminal in Gajularamaram.

Considering the rising financial burden of diesel buses, the Chief Minister announced that RTC is purchasing 1,000 electric buses (EVs) to establish seamless connectivity with the metro rail network and include mini buses in its fleet. RTC spends ₹2,000 crores annually on diesel. To mitigate financial challenges, a shift towards purchasing electric buses is necessary, along with a comprehensive and solid plan to increase revenue.

The Chief Minister informed the RTC unions that the backlog of payments was not accumulated during the Congress government’s tenure. Nevertheless, the government is making every effort to repay the increasing debts. He also mentioned that work has begun on pending compassionate appointments, and decisions regarding financial matters, including the Pay Revision Commission (PRC), will be made soon. Unions should discuss among themselves and present viable options to the government for a permanent solution.
