South Delhi, September 6 (Udaipur Kiran) : A tragic building collapse in the Satya Niketan area of South Delhi claimed the lives of at least five individuals, with several others receiving medical treatment for their injuries. In response to the incident, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered an FIR against the building’s owner.
The Chief Minister’s Office announced on social media platform X that Gupta visited the site to assess the situation. Following an initial investigation, she mandated a magistrate inquiry into the collapse and directed that legal action be taken against the owner.
Authorities have stated that those responsible for this serious incident will be held fully accountable and face the strictest legal provisions. According to the Delhi Police Commissioner, a case has been registered at the South Campus police station against the alleged owner, Hariram, and others. Reports suggest that renovation work on the ground floor may have contributed to the building’s failure. Multiple teams have been formed to locate the individuals involved.
Rescue operations were underway, with teams using gas cutters and JCB machines to clear debris and rescue 11 individuals trapped under the rubble. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM, with most victims being students residing in the building, which was designed to accommodate 40 residents. The building’s owner reportedly resides in Gurugram.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) reported that ten injured patients were brought to the JPNA Apex Trauma Centre following the collapse. Among those, four were declared dead upon arrival, and one patient later succumbed to injuries. Three others remain hospitalized, with one undergoing surgery and another discharged after treatment for minor injuries.
