Farrukhabad, September 5 (Udaipur Kiran) : Neem Karoli Dham, located in Farrukhabad, is recognized as the principal center of spiritual attainment for Baba Neem Karoli Maharaj. The chief priest, Shri Shri Tyagi Ji Maharaj, shared insights about the Baba’s journey, stating that his spiritual powers were cultivated between 1912 and 1935 at this very site. The Dham houses a unique idol of Lord Hanuman, crafted from cow dung and clay, which remains a focal point of devotion.
The government is actively working on developing Neem Karoli Dham as a prominent pilgrimage and tourism circuit. Maharaj Ji expressed excitement about the upcoming film “Hanuman Ansh,” emphasizing the divine play of Baba and the unexpected ways in which spiritual experiences manifest.
He explained that Baba Neem Karoli, originally named Lakshman Das, is also the namesake of the nearby Neem Karoli railway station, just a five-minute walk from the ashram. The Baba first arrived in the area in 1912, and it was here that he attained his spiritual powers through meditation.
The priest elaborated on the significance of the Hanuman idol, which is adorned and dressed every Saturday and Tuesday, noting that unlike other places where stone idols are common, this one was personally created by Baba’s hands. The government is committed to enhancing the pilgrimage circuit, having already declared it a tourist and pilgrimage site.
Significant developments have occurred since 2014, particularly between 2015 and 2017, with the construction of a large hall, kitchen, and guest rooms at the ashram, all aimed at accommodating the influx of visitors. The chief minister has taken a keen interest in this expansion, which reflects the Dham’s growing prominence.
While discussing the nearby Kainchi Dham, which attracts many foreign tourists due to its cooler climate, Maharaj Ji affirmed that the original and most significant site remains Neem Karoli village in Farrukhabad, where Baba’s spiritual journey began and flourished.
