Udaipur, February 16, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) — A new chapter is being added to Udaipur’s tourism sector as the Lion Safari at Sajjangarh Biological Park opens for the public from Monday. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will inaugurate the safari at 4 pm.

The safari features a seven-year-old Asiatic lion, Samrat, and his three-year-old companion, Sunayna. Both lions have been shifted from the holding area to a 20-hectare open enclosure. Officials said the animals are being acclimatised to the new environment to ensure a safe and smooth experience for visitors.
The project has been developed at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore. The safari zone has been secured with strong iron fencing and high boundary walls. Visitors will explore the area through designated safari vehicles.
Along with the lion safari, the Governor will also inaugurate a Rescue Centre and a Reptile House within the park premises. The Rescue Centre will provide treatment for injured and sick leopards, while the Reptile House will showcase several rare reptile species. Authorities believe these facilities will strengthen Udaipur’s position as a wildlife tourism hub.
The safari will remain closed every Tuesday, in line with the biological park’s weekly closure. On other days, visiting hours will be from 9 am to 5:30 pm. The entry fee for Indian visitors has been fixed at Rs 189 per person, while foreign tourists will be charged Rs 590. Children up to five years of age will be allowed free entry.
