New Delhi, September 8 (Udaipur Kiran) : The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has reaffirmed the country’s longstanding position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, emphasizing that a resolution cannot be achieved through military means. During a media briefing in New Delhi, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India is actively in touch with both Moscow and Kyiv, exploring suggestions to halt the ongoing war.
Referencing External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s recent visits to Poland and Ukraine, Jaiswal highlighted that the minister expressed India’s readiness to assist in any way possible to end the conflict. Jaishankar had previously stated that the current era is not one of war and that dialogue is essential for peace.
In response to reports suggesting India’s role as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, Jaiswal reiterated that the country has consistently maintained that the solution to the conflict must come through discussions rather than the battlefield. He pointed out Prime Minister Modi’s remarks during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where Modi stated, “Today’s era is not one of war.”
During his recent visit to Poland, Jaishankar confirmed that India is in continuous contact with both nations and is working on ideas and proposals that could help reduce and ultimately resolve the ongoing conflict. He addressed questions regarding India’s potential role in easing tensions between Moscow and Kyiv at a joint press conference with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
Jaishankar has also conveyed India’s willingness to support efforts to end the long-standing disputes between the two countries. He reiterated this commitment during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, emphasizing that every passing day of conflict leads to more loss of life and destruction.
As India continues to advocate for dialogue and diplomacy since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the government remains hopeful that constructive discussions can pave the way for peace.
