Mumbai, May 17: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off a new train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai on Sunday. The announcement was made via a post on the social media platform X.
In his post, Vaishnaw highlighted that the new express train enhances direct connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra. Alongside him, Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna and other dignitaries participated in the flag-off ceremony, which aims to boost rail connectivity between the two states.
According to a social media update from Central Railway, this new service strengthens the rail link between two major power centers, facilitating easier travel for trade, education, tourism, and employment opportunities.
The Bengaluru-Mumbai Express (16553/16554) will commence its operations from May 17, providing a convenient travel option for passengers between Bengaluru, Hubli-Dharwad, Belagavi, Pune, and Mumbai. The train will be operated by the South Western Railway.
The service will run between Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai, covering the distance in approximately 24 hours and 5 minutes. Regular services will start from Bengaluru on May 23, while services from Mumbai will begin on May 24. The train will stop at a total of 15 stations, departing from Bengaluru every Saturday and Tuesday at 8:35 PM, and arriving in Mumbai at 8:40 PM the following day.
The fare for sleeper class has been set at ₹750, while third AC and second AC fares are ₹1880 and ₹2575, respectively.
