Jaipur Bird Festival to Begin on Saturday

Jaipur, January 30 (Udaipur Kiran): The Jaipur Bird Festival will begin on Saturday with a vibrant celebration dedicated to the conservation of birds and wetlands. The festival aims to spread awareness about the importance of protecting avian life and wetland ecosystems, while encouraging public participation in nature conservation.

Jaipur Bird Festival

The two-day state-level festival will be held on January 31 and February 1, 2026, and is being organised by the Green People Society, Jaipur Chapter, in collaboration with the Rajasthan Government’s Forest Department and WWF India. The theme of the festival is “Join the Celebration of Wings & Wetlands”, aimed at connecting the general public, especially students, with the importance of birds and wetlands.

Green People Society Vice-President and Jaipur Bird Festival Convener Vikram Singh said the event is inspired by the success of the Udaipur Bird Festival, which has gained national recognition over the past 12 years. He said the Jaipur festival will serve as another strong step towards nature conservation.

Focus on Education and Awareness on Day One

The first day of the festival, Saturday, January 31, will be dedicated to education, creativity, and environmental awareness. The main session of the Jaipur Bird Festival will be held from 10 am to 1 pm. Activities for students will include nature quizzes and painting competitions to foster sensitivity, responsibility, and love for nature.

The day will also feature raptor exhibitions, a virtual reality experience, bird photography and painting exhibitions, and a philately exhibition, aimed at creating a deeper emotional connection with birds and their habitats. Special workshops for trainers and writers will also be organised to promote environmental communication and conservation writing.

Workshops and State-Level Conference

According to Vikram Singh, a special training workshop for around 30 resource persons will be organised to enable them to spread awareness about bird and nature conservation among students in their respective institutions. A writing workshop for 15 emerging writers will also be held under expert guidance.

A state-level conference will take place on the same day, with participation from senior officials of the forest, environment, and tourism departments, representatives of WWF India, selected NGOs, academicians, and experts. Around 100 participants will take part in discussions on key conservation-related issues.

Field Visits on Second Day

On Sunday, February 1, participants will undertake field visits to major wetlands and wildlife areas in and around Jaipur. Proposed locations include Sambhar Salt Lake, Barkhera–Chandlai–Muhana region, Keoladeo National Park, Tal Chhapar Sanctuary, and either Ranthambore Tiger Reserve or Sariska Tiger Reserve.

The festival will see participation from renowned bird experts, wildlife photographers, and representatives of environmental organisations from across the country. These include former BNHS Director and senior ornithologist Asad Rahmani, WWF India CEO Ravi Singh, Padma Shri awardee photographer Anup Shah, owl expert Prachi Mehta, and raptor expert Ratul Saha.
