Sagar, September 7 (Udaipur Kiran) : Authorities in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh are grappling with a tragic incident that has claimed the lives of at least 11 individuals due to the consumption of poisonous alcohol. An FIR has been lodged against 20 suspects at the Banda police station, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act.
The police have already apprehended 10 of the accused named in the FIR. Investigations are underway to trace the source and supply chain of the suspected toxic liquor. The incident reportedly occurred in the villages of Nauraj, Gugra Khurd, Dalpatpur, Paatan, Chouka, Chapri, and Bamura Bhera, where several villagers fell ill after consuming the illegal alcohol.
Victims were rushed to Banda Hospital, Bundelkhand Medical College, and the district hospital for treatment, with one critically ill patient airlifted to Bhopal for advanced care. In response to the situation, viscera and alcohol samples have been sent for forensic testing to determine the exact cause of death.
In light of the severity of the incident, the police and district administration have intensified their actions. Sagar’s Superintendent of Police, Anurag Sujania, has formed special police teams to conduct raids at multiple locations.
Opposition leader Umang Singhar has called for financial assistance of ₹50 lakh for the families of the deceased and stringent action against those responsible. Meanwhile, Gwalior’s Excise Commissioner Deepak Saxena confirmed the suspension of several officials, including the Assistant Excise Commissioner and the District Excise Officer.
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla visited Sagar district, meeting with patients at the medical facilities. He assured the public that a thorough review of the incident would be conducted, promising a fair investigation and strict action against the culprits.
The administration has increased surveillance in the affected areas and is urging the public to refrain from consuming any illegal or suspicious alcohol. Authorities are also advising citizens to report any information regarding the manufacture or sale of illicit liquor to the police immediately.
