Jakarta, December 29 (Udaipur Kiran) – A devastating fire broke out at a nursing home in Indonesia, resulting in the tragic deaths of 16 people. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with investigation teams actively working on the site to uncover the reasons behind the incident.
According to the news agency Xinhua, local authorities confirmed on Monday that the fire took place at a nursing home in Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi province. Efforts are underway to identify the victims so that their bodies can be handed over to their families for further procedures.
Almasyah P. Hasibuan, Public Relations Head of Polda Sulut, stated that the victims’ bodies are being identified at Bhayangkara Hospital in North Sulawesi. The identification process aims to ensure proper cooperation with the families before proceeding further.
Xinhua reported that the fire erupted on Sunday at around 8:36 pm local time at the Pantai Werdha Damai nursing home located in Pal Dua district of Manado. The city government dispatched three fire engines to the scene, and by approximately 9:30 pm, the fire was brought under control.
Police officials rushed to the location immediately after receiving the fire alert. They secured the area and began rescue operations. Survivors were taken to Manado City Regional Hospital and Permata Bunda Hospital for treatment.
Hasibuan added that forensic police teams are investigating the sequence of events and the initial cause of the fire. Eyewitnesses are also being questioned to gather more information about the incident.
In a related update, on December 22, a bus accident near the Krapyak toll exit in Semarang city, Central Java province, claimed 15 lives and injured 19 others. The Semarang Search and Rescue Office reported that the bus was speeding and the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to collide with a road barrier and overturn.
Budiono, head of the Semarang Search and Rescue Office, noted that the rescue operation was challenging due to some victims being trapped inside the bus and broken glass blocking the way. However, all victims were eventually rescued and transported to nearby hospitals.
