New Delhi, September 25 (Udaipur Kiran) : Political rhetoric has intensified in New Delhi following comments made by Rahul Gandhi regarding the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists. During a recent statement, Gandhi criticized Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the central government, alleging that votes were being stolen, which he argued renders laws and institutional changes enacted by such means illegal. He suggested that Kumar should become a government witness to these alleged irregularities.
In response, Union Minister Chirag Paswan spoke to the media in Patna, emphasizing the need for the Election Commission, particularly the Chief Election Commissioner, to firmly defend their position against the opposition’s claims. “I am not overly concerned with what the opposition says. It’s their role to engage in politics. If they don’t make accusations, how will they engage politically?” he remarked. Paswan stressed the importance of maintaining public trust in the electoral process, warning that any doubt cast on the election process could be detrimental to democracy.
Additionally, BJP MP Ghulam Ali Khatana dismissed Gandhi’s allegations as baseless, asserting that the Congress leader does not support transparency in the electoral system. He maintained that every citizen’s vote should be counted fairly and that there is no place for illegal immigrants in the country. Khatana commended the Election Commission for its efforts to uphold these principles.
BJP legislator Vikram Randhawa from Jammu and Kashmir also weighed in, expressing skepticism about the seriousness with which Gandhi’s own party takes his statements.
