Manipur Announces Financial Aid for Women Vendors Ahead of Ningol Chakkouba

Manipurs Chief Minister announces special financial assistance for women vendors to support their daily needs before Ningol Chakkouba festival.

Imphal, September 26 (Udaipur Kiran) : Manipur’s Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, declared on Friday that the state government will launch a special financial assistance scheme for women street vendors ahead of the Ningol Chakkouba festival in 2026. This initiative aims to provide economic support to women in meeting their families’ daily needs.

During a speech at the INA Martyrs’ Memorial complex in Moirang, Bishnupur district, as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, the Chief Minister emphasized that women vendors who have not yet registered can do so through their respective MLAs. This month-long campaign coincides with the 25th anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public life and is intended to promote public service and good governance.

Khemchand Singh noted the significant impact of the ongoing ethnic violence in 2023 on the state’s economy, highlighting substantial losses in GST revenue. He revealed that repeated strikes and blockades have led to daily tax revenue losses of approximately ₹25 to ₹30 crore for the state government.

He urged citizens to resolve differences through dialogue and to avoid movements that disrupt daily life. Following discussions in the recently concluded eighth session of the Manipur Assembly, the government has decided to provide financial assistance of ₹10,000 to around 300,050 families, with the necessary budgetary provisions already made.

The Chief Minister remarked that trust among various communities has significantly improved post-crisis, and many areas are now experiencing peace and harmony. He called upon all communities to work together to maintain the state’s unity and integrity.

During the event, Khemchand Singh distributed benefits of various government schemes to eligible individuals and inspected over 25 service counters and stalls while interacting with beneficiaries.
