Chennai, 29 December. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days due to active atmospheric circulation over the Comorin region and the adjoining southeastern Arabian Sea.
According to the weather department, districts in the delta region including Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Pudukottai are expected to experience light to moderate rain on Monday. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail in parts of southern and northern Tamil Nadu during the following two days.
The IMD added that most interior areas of the state will generally remain dry, though some places may see light rain. In several interior districts, light fog is also expected in the early mornings.
The forecast further states that minimum temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are predicted to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal for the next few days.
Colder weather is anticipated in the hill regions, with frost or cold winds possible in areas like Nilgiri and Kodaikanal. Residents in these areas have been advised to take necessary precautions against the cold.
In Chennai, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius. Some parts of the city may experience light mist or fog in the early morning, which could reduce visibility temporarily.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a warning to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea along the southern Tamil Nadu coast, Mannar Gulf, and adjoining Kumari marine areas. Winds in these regions are expected to reach speeds of up to 65 kilometers per hour, leading to rough and dangerous sea conditions.
All fishermen have been urged to remain ashore until the weather improves. Authorities have also been instructed to stay alert and monitor the situation closely.
