Ayushman Bharat Scheme Benefits Over 130 Million People

New Delhi, September 25 (Udaipur Kiran) : The Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) has successfully provided medical treatment to over 130 million individuals, according to Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority. He revealed that more than 480 million health cards have been issued under this initiative, which aims to enhance healthcare access across the country.

Barnwal emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence in fraud detection and the development of a robust digital health service platform that supports the scheme. He noted that while the cost of domestically produced goods may be lower, it does not compromise their quality. The Ayushman Bharat package is comprehensive, covering all expenses related to procedures, medications, and consumables without separate payments for individual items.

He explained that during claims processing, detailed information about implants used is collected, including billing and barcodes. The IT system flags any suspicious cases where multiple implants are utilized, triggering further investigation.

In the last eight years, the scheme has issued over 480 million cards, ensuring families can receive up to ₹500,000 in free medical treatment. The initiative encompasses around 2,000 procedures, and efforts to continue issuing cards are ongoing, with a target of covering over 70 million more individuals.

Barnwal highlighted the significant achievement of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, stating that the treatment provided to over 130 million people has saved considerable amounts for impoverished families, with expenditures exceeding ₹2 trillion.
