Washington, September 24 (Udaipur Kiran) : In a significant display of international solidarity, 51 countries gathered at the United Nations General Assembly in Washington on September 24, 2026, to support Ukraine’s call for peace. EU foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, emphasized that Ukraine desires peace and urged Russia to be prepared to follow suit.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha joined Kallas in calling for an immediate halt to Russia’s military actions. Kallas stated on the social media platform X that since March 2025, Ukraine has agreed to a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire, urging Russia to reciprocate. She insisted that Russia must stop its military operations and engage seriously in negotiations for a just and lasting peace in accordance with international law.
Sybiha highlighted the collective appeal made to Russia during a media briefing ahead of a UN Security Council meeting. He read a joint statement from supporting nations, including members of the European Union, Albania, Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom, reaffirming their commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and the shared commitment to peace.
The statement also expressed concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis, noting that it has been four years, six months, and thirty days since large-scale warfare began, with civilian casualties rising alarmingly due to intensified Russian attacks on civilians and infrastructure. The nations called for strict adherence to international humanitarian law and accountability, ensuring the safety of civilians.
Additionally, the statement raised alarms over attacks in the Black Sea, where Russia has been obstructing Ukraine’s grain exports, threatening global food security. The countries expressed support for efforts to ensure safe and unhindered passage for vessels in the Black Sea and called for the protection of commercial ships and essential infrastructure.
