New Delhi, September 25 (Udaipur Kiran) : The Uttarakhand Waqf Board has announced a significant initiative aimed at assisting homeless and destitute women who have suffered from triple talaq and halala. Chairman Shadab Shams revealed that the board intends to utilize its land bank and properties to support these women, who are often left vulnerable after such experiences.
Shams stated, “We have a land bank of Waqf properties. As caretakers, we possess several houses and properties. We will engage with the government to discuss how we can better allocate these resources.” He expressed optimism following a positive response from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The recent Waqf amendment act has sparked hope among destitute women, signaling a potential for the underprivileged to reclaim their rights.
In a meeting scheduled for next month, the board plans to propose that women affected by triple talaq or halala receive housing assistance. Shams emphasized the importance of providing a stable living environment for these women, allowing them to avoid aimless wandering. He noted that the Dhami government’s introduction of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) aligns with their efforts to empower daughters and ensure their rights are upheld.
Shams highlighted the challenges faced by women in distress, citing cases where they were coerced into remaining in precarious situations due to societal pressures. The Waqf aims to restore the original purpose of its funds, which are designated for orphans, the needy, and widows, ensuring that these resources are used effectively to support those in need.
