New Delhi, September 25 (Udaipur Kiran) : Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, the Chief of Air Staff, was spotted on the football field, demonstrating his passion for the sport at the closing ceremony of the 65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament. The event took place at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi, where he interacted with players and expressed the need to promote sports at the grassroots level.
During the ceremony, Singh, who is also the president of the Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society, presented the trophy to the winning team. Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was the guest of honor at the final match. In his address, Singh commended the contributions of players, schools, teams, and sponsors involved in the tournament, emphasizing the importance of participation and sportsmanship.
He described the final match as thrilling and competitive, marking the conclusion of the tournament. The Under-17 boys’ final was contested between Minerva Public School, Mohali, and MIC EMHSS, Kerala, with Mohali securing a 3-2 victory. The winners received a prize of five lakh rupees, while the runners-up were awarded three lakh rupees.
According to the Indian Air Force, a total of 83 matches were played in this category across five venues in Delhi, including Dr. Ambedkar Stadium and Tejas Football Ground. In the Under-17 girls’ category, St. Patrick High School from Gumla, Jharkhand, claimed the title, defeating Springfield Higher Secondary School from Aizawl. The Under-15 boys’ title went to Manikpada Vivekananda Vidyapith from West Bengal, who triumphed over Kamrup Metropolitan Senior Secondary School from Assam.
