IMD issues yellow alert for 14 districts including Jaipur, Kota, Alwar and Baran
Jaipur, April 3 – A western disturbance currently affecting northern India has begun impacting Rajasthan, with dust storms and light showers reported late Wednesday night in parts of Baran and Jhalawar in the Kota division. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the disturbance will have a greater impact today in districts across Bharatpur, Jaipur, and Kota divisions, where cloud cover, gusty winds, and isolated rain are expected.

Western Disturbance Brings Temporary Weather Shift
Weather experts attribute this change to a weather system emerging from the Arabian Sea, which is currently influencing southeastern Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. The IMD forecasts that the system will weaken by April 4, and by April 5, summer heat will return with increased intensity across the western parts of the state.
In the past 24 hours, many cities in Rajasthan recorded above-normal maximum temperatures. Jaipur, Pilani, Sikar, Chittorgarh, Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner saw temperatures climb 2°C higher than average. Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 36.9°C, causing discomfort due to intense sunshine.
Yellow Alert Issued for 14 Districts
The Jaipur Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for Jhalawar, Baran, Kota, Bundi, Tonk, Ajmer, Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur, Dausa, Karauli, Dholpur, Bharatpur, Alwar, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu.
These areas may experience dust storms with wind speeds of 40–50 km/h, along with light rainfall and thunder. Residents are advised to take precautions and avoid travel during severe conditions.
Heatwave Warning from April 5
As the western disturbance dissipates, an anti-cyclonic circulation is expected to form over western Rajasthan, bringing a sharp rise in temperatures:
-
Heatwave alert for Jaisalmer and Barmer on April 5
-
Yellow alert for Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer on April 6
In these regions, temperatures may rise to 42–43°C, marking the onset of heatwave conditions across Rajasthan.
Summary
Rajasthan is currently undergoing a brief transitional phase in weather, with western disturbances causing unstable conditions, followed by the return of summer heat and potential heatwaves in coming days. Citizens, especially in the alerted districts, are urged to stay updated with official advisories and take protective measures.
