Barmer, July 20: The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday arrested a patwari posted in Dhanau tehsil of Barmer district while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.
According to ACB officials, the accused, Sanjay Kumar Meena, Patwari of Itada Patwar Circle, had demanded a bribe from the complainant in connection with the conversion of agricultural land into commercial land. The complainant and his brother had submitted an online application for land conversion, following which the tehsildar had directed the patwari to conduct a site inspection and submit a report.
The patwari allegedly demanded ₹20,000 in return for carrying out the inspection, submitting a favourable report and assisting in the conversion process. During verification proceedings conducted on July 17, he allegedly accepted ₹5,000 and asked the complainant to pay the remaining ₹15,000 later.
Acting on the complaint, an ACB team from Barmer, under the supervision of DIG Narayan Togas, ACB Jodhpur Range, laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the remaining ₹15,000.
The operation was carried out by Additional Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar and Inspector Devaram along with the ACB team.
The accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned. The ACB has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway.
