Peace is Returning to Manipur: Chief Minister

Imphal, July 22: Manipur Chief Minister Yumkham Khemchand Singh stated on Wednesday that the state has faced a challenging period over the past three years, which has severely impacted the lives and livelihoods of its people. He expressed confidence that peace, stability, and normalcy are gradually returning to the region.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the prolonged crisis has caused significant economic and mental distress among the common people. He participated in a distribution program for beneficiaries of welfare schemes implemented by the Manipur Social Welfare Department.

The event, held at the Imphal City Convention Centre, saw the distribution of welfare schemes worth ₹916.6 million. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Singh mentioned that the state government has initiated various measures to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the people.

He noted that these efforts are being carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Expressing hope, Chief Minister Singh stated that the distribution of these benefits would provide some relief to the people.

Discussing the development of the state, he emphasized the necessity of both peace and hard work. He urged all communities residing in the state to identify themselves as Manipuris and contribute to making Manipur a better state.

In his presidential address, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goyal remarked that many families in the state have faced severe difficulties in recent years. He pointed out that women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) have borne the brunt of these challenges.

The Chief Secretary also stated that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that everyone receives the care, security, assistance, and opportunities they deserve. He added that Wednesday’s program reflects the government’s strong commitment to inclusive development, social justice, and the welfare of all sections of society.

During the event, the Chief Minister formally launched the Integrated Monthly Pension Processing System. Notably, approximately 240,758 beneficiaries received assistance during the program, with a total fund allocation exceeding ₹916.6 million across 17 different schemes from the Social Welfare Department.

The event was attended by Minister of Art, Culture and Tourism Khuraijam Loken Singh, legislators, senior officials, beneficiaries, and students, among others.
