Mamata Banerjee Criticizes Center Over Protests in Delhi and Kolkata

Kolkata, July 21: Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, has launched a sharp attack on the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the student protests in Delhi and incidents during the TMC’s ‘Shaheed Diwas’ event in Kolkata.

Banerjee expressed her support for the opposition’s movement through a post on the social media platform ‘X’, criticizing both events. She stated that the alleged police action against the youth in Delhi is unacceptable.

Criticizing the central government, she remarked that such treatment of young people is not in line with democratic values. The All India Trinamool Congress fully supports the opposition’s sit-in organized near Akbar Road and stands firmly with the opposition on this issue.

Banerjee also referred to the incidents that occurred during the preparations for the ‘Shaheed Diwas’ event in Kolkata on Monday night. She alleged that some individuals attempted to disrupt the event, damaging signboards related to the program, vandalizing the stage, and cutting microphone wires to affect the sound system.

She claimed that several young party workers were threatened during this time, and some were injured. Banerjee held individuals associated with the BJP responsible for these incidents, alleging that the attempts to disrupt the event were premeditated.

Despite these allegations, Banerjee stated that the ‘Shaheed Diwas’ event in Kolkata was successful, receiving widespread support from people across the state and party workers. She emphasized that the large participation, despite numerous obstacles, proved that the public stands with democratic values and the voice of the opposition.

In her message, Banerjee declared that her party will continue to fight against the BJP’s alleged oppressive and dictatorial behavior. She asserted that this struggle will not be limited to West Bengal but will continue nationwide to protect democratic rights and constitutional values.
