Bhopal, July 22: Congress leaders in Bhopal staged a protest against the arrest of Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, who is currently demonstrating in the national capital, New Delhi. State Congress President Jitu Patwari was taken into custody by the police, while Congress MLAs began a sit-in outside the Chief Minister’s office in the assembly complex, which continued late into the night.
The protest, led by Patwari, aimed to encircle the Raj Bhavan in response to Gandhi’s arrest near the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi. When police attempted to detain Patwari and other leaders, a standoff ensued between Congress workers and law enforcement, ultimately resulting in the detention of several Congress leaders.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Umang Singhar and other Congress MLAs commenced their sit-in outside the Chief Minister’s office in the assembly. Singhar condemned the alleged brutality against students protesting in Delhi, stating that the arrests of Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders reflect the “shameful face of the BJP government’s dictatorship.”
“We are fighting for the respect and justice of students from Delhi to the Madhya Pradesh assembly,” he asserted. He emphasized that the voice of truth cannot be silenced or arrested, vowing that they would not back down in this democratic struggle. Singhar also accused BJP Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya of dismissing student issues in the assembly by referring to them as “cockroaches” and threatening Congress MLAs who were protesting outside the Chief Minister’s office. He demanded an apology from Vijayvargiya to the students.
