May 27, 2025 | Bhiwani, Haryana : In a rare meteorological event, Haryana has recorded unprecedented rainfall during May — a month traditionally marked by scorching summer heat. Over the past 24 hours alone, the state received 29.5 mm of rainfall, a staggering 9,737% higher than the monthly average of 0.3 mm for this period. The total rainfall for May has now reached 57.9 mm, up 297% from the usual 14.6 mm.

112-Year Rain Record Broken in Ambala
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that Ambala has witnessed its heaviest May rainfall in 112 years, recording 79.4 mm so far. The last highest was in May 1913, when Ambala received 85 mm. Hisar, too, broke a 52-year-old record, with 74 mm of rain recorded this month — the highest since May 15, 1973, when it witnessed 123.9 mm of rain in a single day.
IMD Issues Statewide Rain Alert
The IMD has issued a rain alert for the entire state, predicting continued rainfall over the next three days. On Monday, rain was already reported in Panipat, Palwal, and Nuh, while Faridabad saw heavy downpours on Sunday night. Storm-like conditions affected seven districts on Saturday night, causing widespread disruption.
Devastation from Storms: 10 Dead, 52 Injured in May
The recent weather pattern has led to major destruction, particularly during storms accompanied by heavy rain. In Hisar, the Balsamand canal branch burst due to the pressure. In Faridabad, a roof collapse resulted in a family of five being trapped. In Karnal, the balcony of a dilapidated building gave way, damaging a parked car.
Across Haryana, electric poles, transformers, and trees were uprooted in several areas. The ongoing weather events this May have led to 10 deaths and 52 injuries so far, making it one of the most damaging May seasons in recent memory.
