Re-Polling Ordered at 15 Polling Stations in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 1: The Election Commission has ordered re-polling at 15 polling stations across two assembly constituencies in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on May 2, 2026. This decision comes after the voting held on April 29 was declared invalid at these stations.

In a letter sent to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, the Commission stated that the decision was based on reports from the returning officers and observers for the 142-Magrahat West and 143-Diamond Harbour assembly constituencies. The voting on April 29 was annulled under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

According to the Commission’s directive, re-polling will take place on May 2, 2026, from 7 AM to 6 PM at all 15 polling stations. In the 142-Magrahat West constituency, re-polling will occur at 11 stations, including North Yerpur F.P. School (Room No. 2), Nazra F.P. School (Rooms 1 and 2), Deula F.P. School (Room No. 1), and several others.

Additionally, four polling stations in the 143-Diamond Harbour constituency will also conduct re-polling, including Bagda Junior High School and Chanda F.P. School (Room No. 2).

The Election Commission has instructed that information regarding the re-polling be widely disseminated in the respective areas. They have requested that voters be informed and all candidates receive written notification about the re-polling.

It is noteworthy that voting took place on April 29 for these seats, but the decision for re-polling was made following reports of irregularities. The results for all assembly seats are expected to be announced on May 4, with extensive preparations already underway.
