Mumbai, September 8 (Udaipur Kiran) : Congress leader and MLC Bhai Jagatap commented on the recent court ruling related to Rahul Gandhi, stating that it was not a setback for the party. He emphasized that if the court deemed the lower court’s summons appropriate, they would comply. However, he raised concerns about the comments made by Prime Minister Modi and BJP leaders regarding Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and the Gandhi family, insisting that such remarks should also be curtailed as the Constitution prohibits hurting sentiments.
Jagatap remarked, “This is not a setback. Given the nature of recent court orders, I prefer not to comment further. If the court believes that the summons from the lower court was justified, we will respect that. At the same time, there should be restrictions on the comments made by PM Modi about leaders from the Congress party, including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, as our Constitution does not allow for hurting anyone’s feelings.”
He noted that while several media channels covered the issue, he still felt the need to stress the importance of decorum in political discourse. Jagatap also challenged the BJP leaders on their continuous disparaging remarks about opposition leaders, particularly the Gandhi family and Nehru.
When asked about the demand for an apology from Rahul Gandhi, he asserted that the Constitution does not mandate such actions and that the court does not supersede it. Regarding the petition filed by a BJP worker asking for an apology from Gandhi, he stated that it was unnecessary.
Jagatap further highlighted that if apologies were to be demanded, then Prime Minister Modi would need to repeatedly apologize for his comments about Nehru and Indira Gandhi, as well as other Congress leaders. He remarked that BJP leaders seem to be overly fixated on the Gandhi family.
In response to concerns about potential communal unrest during festivals, he pointed out that the pressing issues in the country are unemployment, education, paper leaks, children’s futures, and inflation, which the government is failing to address. He criticized the government’s claim of a 7.8% GDP growth, stating that ordinary citizens do not feel the benefits. He noted that former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg and former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan have also questioned these GDP figures.
