Rajasthan Likely to See Relief from Heavy Rainfall, Normal Weather Ahead

Jaipur, July 20 – After days of continuous heavy rainfall across Rajasthan, the state is likely to experience some relief starting Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall activity will reduce from July 20 onwards, with most regions expected to see normal weather over the next seven days. However, a fresh spell of heavy rain may begin again in eastern Rajasthan around July 27–28.

In Jaipur, the weather cleared on Sunday after three consecutive days of rain, offering some much-needed sunshine. For now, only three districts — Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer — remain under a rain alert.

Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall

A new weather system is likely to become active from July 27–28, potentially bringing another round of heavy rain to eastern Rajasthan. According to Radheyshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Center, the current wind system over eastern Rajasthan is gradually shifting westward and may weaken into a low-pressure area within six hours. This system has already triggered significant rainfall in the Jodhpur, Ajmer, and Udaipur divisions over the past 24 hours.

On Saturday, Balasar in Jodhpur recorded the highest rainfall at 175 mm, followed by Ajmer with 143 mm and Sekhla with 110 mm. The department had issued a red alert for Kota, Baran, Bundi, and Jhalawar, but as skies cleared on Sunday morning, residents breathed a sigh of relief.

In Dugari village of Nainwa sub-division in Bundi, flood-like conditions emerged as water from the Kanak Sagar dam entered the village. Over 50 homes were flooded, forcing residents to spend the night on rooftops. Streets and markets were submerged.

Heavy rainfall led to seven fatalities across the state on Saturday. In Untda, Ajmer, three girls drowned in a pond, while in Tilonia, a boy drowned in a water channel. A four-year-old boy in Sawai Madhopur died after falling into a drain. In Tonk, the body of a motorcyclist was recovered 15 hours after he was swept away.

Over the past week, more than 25 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents. In Shergarh, Jodhpur, a 40-year-old dam collapsed, flooding nearby farms and settlements. Another 20-year-old dam in Amritnagar also gave way. Authorities evacuated residents from affected areas.

Districts like Jaisalmer, Pali, and Tonk have reported significant disruption to daily life due to the continuous downpour.
