Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued in 17 Districts of Chhattisgarh

Raipur, July 20 – The monsoon has picked up pace again in both southern and northern parts of Chhattisgarh, bringing widespread rainfall. In the state capital Raipur, heavy showers accompanied by strong winds began early Sunday morning. The Meteorological Department has predicted increased rainfall intensity in southern Chhattisgarh over the next five days.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast

A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued across 17 districts, including Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Gariaband, Kondagaon, and Kanker. Alerts have also been issued for Bastar, Raipur, and Durg divisions, indicating the likelihood of intense rain on Sunday.

The Raipur Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for the next three hours in several districts — Bastar, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker, Dhamtari, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Durg, and Bemetara. These regions are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds (40–60 km/h), and dust storms.

According to the weather department, the current monsoon trough extends from northwest Rajasthan to the northeast Bay of Bengal. This active system is expected to intensify rainfall in the coming days. Another trough is currently active from Bihar to Odisha via Jharkhand, extending up to 0.9 km in height.

In districts like Bijapur, Dantewada, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Kabirdham, Mungeli, and Korea, there is a forecast for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 km/h). A yellow alert has been issued for these areas as well.

Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain has been recorded across all divisions of the state. Rajnandgaon reported the highest maximum temperature at 35°C, while Pendra Road recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 22.6°C. In Raipur, steady rainfall since morning has brought welcome relief from the humidity.
