Lucknow, August 23: Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Mehrotra has made a bold claim regarding the upcoming 2027 assembly elections, stating that a favorable atmosphere is developing for the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, with the public seeking change. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of creating conflicts among Dalits, backward classes, and upper castes to divert attention from core issues before the elections.
Mehrotra alleged that the BJP government is attempting to foster social strife to distract the public from pressing issues such as inflation and unemployment. He asserted that the BJP aims to instigate disputes among various social groups to prevent the public from questioning the main issues. He described this as a deliberate attempt to mislead the populace.
Responding to Akhilesh Yadav’s comments regarding Jayant Chaudhary, Mehrotra stated that the seats won by smaller parties in the 2022 assembly elections were a result of the wave in favor of the Samajwadi Party. He noted that the Rashtriya Lok Dal secured eight seats, with its eight MLAs later supported by Samajwadi Party legislators in the Rajya Sabha.
Mehrotra accused Jayant Chaudhary of breaking the alliance and siding with the BJP, asserting that alliances should be upheld for five years. He suggested that if Chaudhary had confidence in his popularity after leaving the Samajwadi Party, he should contest elections among the public. Mehrotra also urged Chaudhary to reflect on the political ideologies of his father and grandfather, Chaudhary Charan Singh.
In response to Mayawati’s demand for an apology from Akhilesh Yadav, Mehrotra countered by accusing the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of becoming the BJP’s “B-team,” stating that the BSP raises issues aligned with BJP’s agenda. However, he acknowledged Chaudhary Charan Singh as his leader and emphasized the need to respect his family’s political contributions.
Mehrotra also raised concerns about rising sugar prices, claiming that a significant portion of sugarcane is being used for ethanol production, affecting sugar availability and driving up prices. He remarked that inflation is directly impacting the common people’s finances.
