Mumbai, August 22: BJP MP Yogendra Chandelia has criticized Congress and Rahul Gandhi for allegedly politicizing issues related to students. He claimed that the Congress party is using student concerns for political gain. However, he emphasized that if the students’ demands are legitimate, the government should listen seriously and address them.
Chandelia’s remarks came in response to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Students’ Echo’ program in Pune, where he raised student-related issues. In an interview from New Delhi, Chandelia pointed out that despite the Congress-supported government in Jharkhand, violence against students occurred without any response from Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, where the BJP is in power, Gandhi is addressing student issues in Pune. He urged that instead of using these problems for political advantage, the focus should be on finding solutions.
Questioning Gandhi’s role, Chandelia stated that it is inappropriate to politicize student issues in this manner. He also criticized Congress regarding the national song ‘Vande Mataram,’ stating that it was written nearly 150 years ago and is tied to the country’s sentiments. If the government has made a decision regarding this matter and enacted a law, ‘Vande Mataram’ should be sung accordingly.
He accused Congress of disrespecting the nation and its anthem by deciding to sing only two verses of ‘Vande Mataram’ in a meeting. If Congress had objections to this decision, they should have discussed it in Parliament, he added, also criticizing Sonia Gandhi in this context.
Regarding the rising sugar prices, Chandelia mentioned that such situations arise from time to time, and the government is monitoring the situation. Measures related to imports and exports will be taken to control prices, and he assured that the government will take necessary steps to improve the situation regarding sugar prices.
On the issue of students in Ranchi, the BJP MP claimed that students are aware of who stands with them and who is merely engaging in politics. He also targeted opposition parties like Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, accusing them of using these issues for political gain during protests led by the CJP in Delhi.
