Trump Praises Indias Voter ID System; Jamaat-e-Islami Responds

Mumbai, August 23: In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks praising India’s electoral system, Salman Ahmed, National Media Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, expressed that the organization does not require validation from the United States. Ahmed noted that Trump commended the necessity of photo identification in Indian elections, emphasizing that India should have confidence in its own systems without needing American endorsement.

Ahmed pointed out that while Trump highlighted India’s large population, he did not commend the Election Commission of India directly. He stated, “If they are using photo identification, it is a good practice. However, we should trust ourselves enough not to need validation from America. Our worth is not determined by American praise.”

Addressing concerns regarding the State Identification Register (SIR) process, Ahmed highlighted that many genuine citizens who have been voting for years have been excluded from the lists, which he believes violates their rights. He mentioned, “Data from states where SIR has been completed shows that numerous rightful voters are missing from the rolls. This raises questions about the effectiveness of the SIR process.”

He further asserted that the right to vote is a fundamental democratic right, and no one should be deprived of it due to technical errors. “It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure that no voter is left out. It is not the voter’s duty to prove themselves; rather, it is the Commission’s duty to guarantee that every eligible citizen can exercise their voting rights,” Ahmed concluded.
