Mumbai, May 1: Maharashtra Governor Jishnudev Verma inaugurated the digital census for 2027 on the occasion of the state’s foundation day. This census will be conducted under the ‘Self-Enumeration’ method, where individuals will provide their personal information themselves, marking a shift from the traditional approach where government officials collected data from households.
During the launch at Lok Bhavan, the Governor expressed his delight and urged citizens to actively participate. He emphasized that the commencement of the digital census on Maharashtra’s foundation day is a significant milestone.
He stated that the census will undoubtedly pave the way for the state’s development in the coming years. On this special occasion, the Governor introduced the slogan ‘Our Census, Our Development’ and encouraged people to engage in the process. He expressed confidence that this initiative would lead to positive outcomes on the ground, urging everyone to contribute to its success.
Present at the event were the Governor’s wife Sudha Dev Verma, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr. Vipin Sharma, Chief Census Officer of Maharashtra Dr. Nirupama J. Dange, the Governor’s Secretary Dr. Prashant Naranware, Deputy Registrar General A.N. Rajiv, and Deputy Registrar General Yashwant Patil.
It is noteworthy that the framework for India’s digital census was established earlier, and the process of implementation has now begun. There is optimism that the digital census will yield the expected results.
