Jaipur, September 14 (Udaipur Kiran) : The counting of votes in the Rajasthan local elections of 2026 is underway, with results pouring in from various municipalities and councils. Initial trends indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in Jaipur, while Congress leaders remain optimistic, claiming they expect to secure more than 60 seats.
Manmohan Gurjar, the newly elected Congress councillor from Ward 51 of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, celebrated his victory, attributing it to the party and its workers. He reported winning by a significant margin of approximately 1,700 to 1,800 votes, emphasizing that this win reflects the support of the people of Sanganeer.
Another Congress councillor, Suresh Meena, also shared his victory story, noting he won by a margin of 518 votes. He credited the success to the blessings of the public and the hard work of Congress workers, stating that the electorate’s support has propelled the party to victory.
Rafiq Khan, the chief whip of the Congress legislative party in the Rajasthan Assembly, responded to the early results, acknowledging the BJP’s lead but asserting that several strongholds for Congress have yet to be counted. He expressed confidence that Congress could win two to three more seats than the BJP in his constituency, predicting a total of 8 to 10 seats for the party.
In Ajmer, Congress candidates and leaders are also hopeful for favorable results. Candidate Noratmal Gurjar remarked that the public has opted for change, indicating that the upcoming board will be formed by Congress. He expressed gratitude to voters for their continued trust, marking his fourth consecutive victory.
The administration in Ajmer has made extensive arrangements for the counting process. District Election Officer Lokbandhu reported that votes are being counted across six rooms, with postal ballots being counted first. For locations without postal ballots, counting commenced at 8 AM using electronic voting machines (EVMs). Only authorized candidates, election agents, and counting agents are allowed entry into the counting centers, and strict measures are in place to maintain law and order during the process.
The police have bolstered security at counting centers in Ajmer, with designated entry points and separate parking arrangements to facilitate smooth traffic flow and minimize crowding. Authorities have implemented Section 163 to prohibit victory processions and related activities, ensuring compliance with further directives from the administration.
