Sudden Weather Shift Hits 12 Districts, Hail Falls in Sikar and Nagaur
Jaipur, May 4 — A dramatic change in weather swept across Rajasthan on Saturday afternoon, bringing hailstorms, strong winds, and scattered rainfall to multiple districts. Sikar and Nagaur witnessed intense hail, while areas like Jaipur, Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, and Ajmer experienced a combination of dust storms and light showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a rain alert for 12 districts for May 4, which materialized with widespread atmospheric disturbances across the state.

Jaipur Sees 10°C Temperature Drop Within 150 Minutes
One of the most striking impacts of this unseasonal weather occurred in Jaipur, where the mercury plummeted from 35°C at 2:30 p.m. to just 25.7°C by 4:30 p.m., as per the city’s Automatic Weather System. Accompanying the sudden temperature dip were dust-laden winds, followed by thunderstorms and light rain, disrupting normal life and offering relief from prevailing heat.
The change in climate has not only cooled the region temporarily but also raised concerns over crop damage due to hail, especially in agrarian districts like Sikar and Nagaur.
Broader Impact Across Rajasthan: Cooler Temperatures Bring Relief
Over the past 24 hours, eastern and northern districts of Rajasthan also reported weather fluctuations. On May 2, cities such as Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, and Pilani saw early morning dust storms and overcast skies. The temperature decline continued during the day, bringing welcome respite to residents.
Temperature readings across key cities on May 2:
-
Pilani: 31.5°C (lowest recorded max temp in the state)
-
Hanumangarh: 31.9°C
-
Jhunjhunu: 33.9°C
-
Dholpur: 34.9°C
-
Ganganagar: 34.8°C

-

-

These readings indicate a broader regional trend of cooling due to weather instability, with forecasts suggesting further rain and storms may continue in parts of Rajasthan over the coming days.
