Hyundai has unveiled the fifth-generation Tucson, around six years after the launch of the existing model. The new-generation SUV gets major changes in design, cabin space and styling.
Hyundai has unveiled the fifth-generation version of its popular SUV, the Tucson. The new Tucson comes around six years after the launch of the existing model. The new-generation SUV gets major changes ranging from its exterior design to cabin space.
The exterior now has a more boxy and muscular appearance, while the cabin gets connected screens and a premium interior aimed at giving it a more modern feel.
Boxy and All-New Design
The biggest change in the new Tucson is its design. The sharp body lines of the previous model have been replaced by a more upright and boxy look.
At the front, the SUV gets a slim full-width light bar, below which is a blacked-out grille section. Vertical LED DRLs are positioned on both sides, which Hyundai calls H-Edge Lighting.
According to Hyundai, the lighting forms part of the company’s new ‘Art of Steel’ design language.
The rear design of the new Tucson has also been changed. The tailgate gets a connected LED light bar, with vertical red light elements at both edges. The company logo is positioned in the centre, with ‘TUCSON’ written below it.
Square wheel arches, an almost vertical rear windscreen and a raised roof spoiler further enhance the SUV’s rugged appearance.
SUV Gets Bigger
The dimensions of the new Tucson have also increased. It measures 4,700 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm.
Compared with the existing model, the length has increased by 60 mm and the wheelbase by 30 mm. The width has also increased by 40 mm.
This is expected to particularly benefit passengers seated in the rear. Second-row headroom now stands at 1,031 mm, which is 29 mm more than before.
The opening angle of the rear doors has also been increased from 73 degrees to 83 degrees, making it easier for passengers to enter and exit the rear seats.
Premium Cabin with Connected Displays
The cabin has also been given a completely new look. The dashboard features two connected screens housed together.
The screen on the left serves as the digital instrument cluster, while the larger touchscreen infotainment system on the right provides navigation and media functions.
A two-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons is positioned in front of the driver.
The lower sections of the dashboard and door panels feature ambient lighting with an orange tone. Light-coloured leather upholstery on the seats and door trims gives the cabin a premium appearance.
New XRT Variant Added
Hyundai has also added an XRT trim with the new Tucson. This variant has been developed for customers looking for a more outdoor- and adventure-oriented SUV.
The XRT gets a more rugged design treatment compared with the standard model.
At launch, the SUV will be offered with a total of eight exterior colour options. These include five new colours, including Serenity White Pearl, Driftwood Gray Matte and Driftwood Gray Metallic.
Powertrain Details Yet to Be Revealed
Hyundai has not yet shared complete details about the engine and powertrain of the new Tucson.
However, the existing model is available with both hybrid and non-hybrid options, and therefore these powertrain options are expected to continue in the new generation as well.
