Bikaner, January 2 (Udaipur Kiran): Four people were killed and three others seriously injured after a speeding trailer rammed into vehicles on the Bikaner–Napasar road late Thursday night. The tragic accident occurred near the Deshnok area under the Napasar police station limits.
According to police, the incident took place around 11:30 pm when a tempo travelling on the Bharat Mala Highway suffered a tyre burst and overturned. While the occupants of the tempo escaped with minor injuries, a camper vehicle stopped at the spot to help them. During this time, a truck passing through also halted at the scene.
Moments later, a speeding trailer lost control and crashed into the stationary truck and camper, mowing down people who were standing nearby. Four persons — Sunil Bishnoi (25), Rajuram Jat (25), Rajesh (33) and Sunil — died on the spot, while Inder Singh, Tarachand, Parmeshwar and Pooja, wife of Rajesh, sustained serious injuries.
The injured were rushed to PBM Hospital in Bikaner, where they are undergoing treatment. Station House Officer Sushma Shekhawat said preliminary investigation indicates that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving by the trailer driver, who fled the spot after the incident.
Following the accident, traffic on the highway remained disrupted for several hours. The road was cleared and traffic restored around 4 am after damaged vehicles were removed using cranes. Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding trailer driver.
