New Delhi, July 25: The hearing of cases related to paper leaks in NEET and other competitive examinations will now proceed more swiftly. A special fast-track court has been set up at the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi to expedite these proceedings. Special Judge Anu Grover Baliga took charge of the court, located in Court Number 408, on Saturday.
The Delhi High Court established this special fast-track court to ensure the quick hearing of criminal cases associated with paper leaks and the use of unfair means in public examinations. The aim of this court is to resolve such cases promptly and expedite the judicial process against the offenders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a firm stance on paper leak cases in NEET and other competitive exams, deciding to establish fast-track courts across the country. He stated that swift hearings would be ensured against those who jeopardize students’ futures, and severe punishments would be meted out to the guilty. Following this announcement, several measures are being taken to accelerate the judicial process.
Meanwhile, the central government is also preparing to tighten laws to completely curb paper leaks. On Friday, the Union Cabinet approved a draft bill related to amendments to ‘The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024’. This law aims to effectively prevent incidents of paper leaks and cheating in public examinations.
The bill concerning organized paper leak cases proposes imprisonment of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of ₹10 crore. This is significantly higher than the existing law, which prescribes a sentence of three to five years for individual offenders, while organized crimes related to paper leaks and cheating can lead to imprisonment of five to 10 years and a minimum fine of ₹1 crore.
