New Delhi, September 17 (Udaipur Kiran) : Indian opener Abhishek Sharma delivered a spectacular performance on Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, scoring a blistering century against Afghanistan in the third T20 match. He reached 108 runs off just 34 balls, marking the fastest fifty and century by an Indian batsman in T20s. His remarkable innings played a pivotal role in India clinching the series 3-0, which included a commanding victory by 127 runs.
During the post-match presentation, Sharma emphasized the importance of his preparation for each series. “Everything depends on the process I adopt before every series. It’s crucial for me to know who I am playing against and which bowlers will be on the field. As a batsman, the process has always been key for me,” he stated. He elaborated on his strategy for utilizing the powerplay and adapting to different bowling styles.
Sharma dismissed concerns about occasional defeats, asserting that the team remains united in its long-term goal of dominating opponents under all circumstances. “We’ve been doing this for the past two years. A couple of bad series won’t define our batting unit, as we want to maintain our dominance before the World Cup, regardless of the opponent,” he said.
He credited the team’s management for providing clarity and freedom to play an aggressive style. “When you want to play a certain way, it’s essential that the captain and coach support you. Their trust has allowed us to continue this approach for several years, and I hope we can keep it going,” he added.
Reflecting on his ability to score runs across the field, Sharma remarked, “I don’t think I should be limited to any specific area. I just watch the ball and play accordingly. It’s always been easy for me to go out and play freely without forcing shots.” He reiterated the importance of maintaining the team’s culture and taking advantage of powerplays, expressing confidence in the direction the team is headed.
