Thimphu, September 18 (Udaipur Kiran) : Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, in a ceremonial event on September 18, 2026, lit a ‘Blessing Lamp’ alongside Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk at the famous Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu. The occasion was marked by Jaishankar’s tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of dedicated public service, which he noted has positively impacted countless lives globally.
Posting on social media platform X, Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for the king’s dignified presence during the ceremony. The event was attended by Bhutan’s Prime Minister Shering Tobgay, Foreign Minister D.N. Dhungyel, as well as friends from India and the Indian community in Bhutan.
Earlier that day, Jaishankar met with Prime Minister Tobgay and presented 54 ‘Made in India’ electric vehicles to Bhutan. He conveyed Modi’s best wishes and reaffirmed India’s commitment to Bhutan’s growth and prosperity.
In his post after the meeting, Jaishankar shared his joy at meeting Tobgay and acknowledged the depth of feelings regarding their unique friendship and cooperation. He emphasized India’s steadfast commitment to supporting Bhutan’s progress.
Additionally, during his visit, Jaishankar and Bhutan’s Foreign Minister D.N. Dhungyel inaugurated the 65-bed Gyaltseun Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Mongar, aimed at enhancing access to quality maternal and child healthcare in eastern Bhutan.
