New Delhi, March 26, 2025 – If you’re already sweating in Delhi, brace yourself – the national capital is experiencing March heat as intense as peak April. With temperatures nearing the 40°C mark, Delhiites are likely to endure a prolonged hot spell with no respite in sight for the next week.

Hottest Day of the Season So Far
Tuesday marked the hottest day of the season in Delhi, with Safdarjung Observatory recording a maximum temperature of 37.1°C, which is 5.6°C above normal. The day began with bright sunshine across most parts of the city, intensifying as noon approached.
While the daytime heat scorched the city, the minimum temperature remained moderate. Safdarjung recorded a low of 16°C, about 1.3°C below normal, with humidity levels ranging from 80% in the morning to 16% in the afternoon.
Pitampura, Ridge Areas Sizzle Above 38°C
Pitampura and the Ridge area turned into hot zones, clocking daytime highs exceeding 38°C on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts clear skies and intense sunshine to continue on Wednesday, with maximum temperatures likely to hover between 38°C and 40°C.
Wind speeds are expected between 4 to 14 km/h, offering minimal relief. The minimum temperature on Wednesday is expected to settle around 18°C.
Delhi Air Quality Update
Adding to the discomfort, Delhi’s air quality remains in the ‘Poor’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 234 at 4 PM on Tuesday. However, the Early Warning System for Delhi predicts marginal improvement, expecting air quality to shift to the ‘Moderate’ category from Wednesday for the next two days.
