Bhopal, January 7 – As winter continues to grip Madhya Pradesh, a fresh spell of intense cold is set to begin across the state starting today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a 2-3°C drop in day and night temperatures, accompanied by cold wave conditions in several regions. Dense fog is likely to blanket Gwalior, Chambal, and Rewa divisions over the next two days, while light rain is expected in some districts from January 12.

Colder Days Ahead: What to Expect
The current cold wave is being driven by icy winds blowing from Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh, where snowfall has been reported. On Monday, jet streams at an altitude of 12.6 km were recorded moving at a speed of 204 km/h, intensifying the chill across the state.
With the melting of snow in the northern regions, wind speeds are expected to increase, leading to a significant dip in temperatures across Madhya Pradesh. According to the IMD, a Western Disturbance is likely to become active over Northwest India on January 10, resulting in light rain or drizzle in parts of the state from January 12 onwards. The weather is expected to remain cold throughout January, with cold wave conditions persisting for the next 20 to 22 days.
