Bhopal, January 3 – With the arrival of the new year, Madhya Pradesh is gripped by a severe cold wave as dense fog blankets major cities including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain. The visibility dropped to as low as 100 meters in Gwalior, while the chilly air and dew-drenched roads made for a frosty start to the day across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for moderate to dense fog across the state for the next three days, though no cold wave warning has been announced yet.

Fog and Temperature Updates
- Pachmarhi experienced freezing conditions, with the temperature dropping below 4°C, hitting 3.4°C.
- Minimum temperatures in most cities, including Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Indore, remained below 13°C, intensifying the chill.
- Thursday night saw drastic drops in temperatures, with Pachmarhi recording a sharp fall of 7.6°C, plunging to 3.4°C.
- Other cities like Rewa, Raisen, Mandla, Khajuraho, and Umaria also reported minimum temperatures below 7°C.

According to meteorologist Arun Sharma, the current weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh are driven by snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh. Chilly winds from these regions are sweeping into the state, further intensified by jet stream winds moving at 222 km/h at an altitude of 12.6 km.

- After 3 Days: A slight rise in minimum temperatures by 2–3°C is expected.
