Ram Mandir Donation Controversy: VHP Leader Assures Faith Remains Unshaken

Gurugram, June 21: Amid allegations of irregularities and theft concerning donations for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Surendra Jain, a senior leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has expressed his views on the matter. He stated that in light of the seriousness of the allegations, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has requested a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct an inquiry. Jain is optimistic that the investigation report will clarify the situation within 15 days.

In an interview with a news agency, Jain noted that various accusations have been made since the inception of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement in 1984. He emphasized that these allegations often arise to undermine the movement, question the existence of Lord Ram, or cast doubt on the credibility of those associated with it.

He pointed out that such allegations have been consistently proven false over time. This latest round of accusations, according to Jain, has been initiated by certain political figures whose credibility has previously been questioned. However, as similar claims began to surface from different sources, the organization decided to take the matter seriously and demanded an investigation.

Jain mentioned that due to the gravity of the allegations, the Trust had requested the Uttar Pradesh government to form an SIT. He asserted that a fair investigation is the only way to address all concerns. He stated, “If discussions around the allegations are increasing, then a fair inquiry should be conducted.”

Despite the reports of alleged irregularities related to donations, Jain affirmed that the faith of devotees remains unaffected. He cited the steady number of visitors to the temple, with approximately 92,000 devotees on June 15, 82,250 on June 16, 80,600 on June 17, and 83,300 on June 18. He remarked that if people’s faith had wavered, there would have been a noticeable decline in visitor numbers, which has not been the case.

Rejecting demands for the reorganization of the Trust, Jain stated that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust comprises saints and individuals who have dedicated their lives to the temple’s construction. He emphasized that there are no serious allegations against the members of the Trust. They are awaiting the SIT report, and necessary actions will be taken based on its findings.

Jain also addressed claims regarding missing silver rods and other materials, suggesting that different organizations have been implicated. He argued that not only the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust but also other entities involved during the movement should be investigated.

In response to the demand for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation, Jain stated that the organization is not afraid of any inquiry. He asserted, “We have nothing to hide. Therefore, we have no hesitation in any level of investigation.” He believes that the SIT investigation, with a 15-day timeline, is the most suitable arrangement as the investigating officers are familiar with local circumstances and facts.

Jain concluded by stating that those making serious allegations should have pursued legal action to support their claims. He reiterated that the accused have themselves demanded a fair investigation and formed the SIT, demonstrating their willingness to cooperate. He affirmed that they would welcome any judicial or further inquiries if necessary after the SIT report is released.
