Ranchi, August 18: Political tensions have escalated in Jharkhand following the government’s decision to cancel the JSSC-CGL and TDPCL examinations. Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have hailed this as a significant victory for student protests and are demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter.
Senior BJP leader Babulal Marandi took to social media to congratulate the students who have been protesting for the last 23 days at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi. He stated that the students’ determination and unity forced the government to concede to their demands.
Marandi described the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination as a major victory for the students, accusing the Chief Minister of initially dismissing their allegations but now being compelled to listen. He raised concerns about the government’s reluctance to order a CBI investigation, questioning its intentions. Marandi insisted that a fair inquiry is necessary regarding the alleged job sale involving the Chief Minister’s friend Vinod Singh and former JSSC officials.
He also called for an investigation into alleged irregularities in the JPSC examinations, implicating Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu and the district president of JMM in Giridih.
“The cancellation of the exams is just the first step. A CBI inquiry and strict action against the guilty will be the true victory of the students’ struggle,” Marandi asserted.
BJP state president Aditya Sahu echoed these sentiments, highlighting that thousands of students have been protesting and on hunger strike for 23 days. He accused the government of selling jobs instead of providing employment to the youth over the past six years.
Sahu noted that the primary demand of the students was to cancel all examinations conducted through TDPCL in the last six years, claiming that the Hemant Soren government was forced to comply due to student pressure. He reiterated that the BJP stands with the students and emphasized the necessity of a CBI investigation, suggesting that many corrupt officials would come under scrutiny if an inquiry were conducted.
In the wake of the exam cancellations, student leader Devendra Nath Mahto spoke with social activist Sonam Wangchuk via video call, during which Wangchuk congratulated the protesting students.
Wangchuk stated, “Congratulations to all students. I am glad that your hard work has paid off,” commending both the students and the government.
Mahto added that the students drew inspiration from Wangchuk’s guidance, noting that the government accepted their demands on the 23rd day of their protest and the 16th day of their hunger strike.
“This is a victory where no one has lost. It is a win for the students and the government, as the government also aims to do well. This is a win for everyone,” Mahto concluded.
