Ujjain, August 18: On the occasion of Shukla Paksha Shashthi Tithi, a grand Bhasma Aarti was performed for Baba Mahakal at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine spectacle.
Early on Tuesday, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the divine decoration and Bhasma Aarti, the entire temple resonated with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
With the opening of the temple doors, the water abhishekam of Lord Mahakal was performed amidst the chanting of mantras, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Baba Mahakal adorned a crescent moon on His forehead. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and Hari Om water was offered. After the camphor aarti, Baba donned a crown. The Bhasma Aarti was then conducted with the accompaniment of jingles, drums, and conch shells, showcasing the grand decoration of Baba Mahakal.
The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, allowing a significant number of devotees to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. Many devotees had queued since the previous night to have a glimpse of their revered deity. It is customary for men to wear traditional dhoti and women to wear sarees during the Bhasma Aarti.
